Toucan Education Programs Official Press Release

Plant A Tree Reforestation Program Logo

Hoteliers, tour guides and operators, restaurant owners and service industry workers are invited to participate in a reforestation program to keep Belize’s ecosystems healthy and address carbon emissions associated with travel to Belize.

Join hands with Toucan Education Programs and Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD) as we carry out “The Plant a Tree Reforestation Program™” by purchasing seedlings that will be used by environmental clubs to restore degraded areas.

Our Goal is to plant ONE THOUSAND trees in the Cayo District in 2022.

We know you may already be adding more trees to your own property or wondering how to help with this if you are in an urban setting. As a member of the hospitality industry, you may find your guests are becoming increasingly aware of the environmental footprint of their travel.

When you buy seedlings through Toucan Educational Programs, your business will get an electronic certificate showing your commitment to the project. You can share this with guests, and upload to your website or social media marketing.

Toucan Education Programs, which is celebrating its 11th anniversary this week, will process your payment and put your contribution towards buying the seedlings from a Cayo women’s group, transporting seedlings to areas designated for reforestation, and monitoring the plants for six months to support their successful growth.

Our partners at FCD identify the areas needing reforestation, work with the nursery to select the plant species and number of seedlings required, and produce an annual report so you can monitor the progress of The Plant a Tree Reforestation Program™ and share this with your guests too.

Planting trees provides jobs for local community groups, reforests communities and restores wildlife habitats, improves soil, food supply and local economies, purifies water, restores rainfall and helps to decrease flooding, contributes to the biodiversity and absorption of carbon emissions and helps fulfill Belize’s international ecosystem restoration commitments.

Help us give the Cayo District 1,000 trees in 2022.

Belizean tourism stakeholders qualify for a 10% discount on their purchase.
